Does the Illuminati still exist?

The Illuminati was founded in Bavaria in 1776.Adam Weishaupt, a professor of law at Ingolstadt, created it.It was a secret society for spreading Enlightenment ideas, with membership in the low thousands.
In 1785 the Elector of Bavaria banned secret societies.Papers were seized in the searches, and the government published them.Membership lists and internal rules became public then.The organisation scattered.
No source shows it continuing after that.From the late 18th century onward people claimed it had caused the French Revolution, and that claim persists.But no document showing continuity has ever surfaced.
What the internet calls the Illuminati today is a different thing.It grew out of books, games and popular culture from the 1970s onward.It shares only the name with the Bavarian society.
