The pituitary gland is a small endocrine gland hanging beneath the hypothalamus, at the center of the base of the brain.It is about the size of a pea and weighs roughly half a gram.It splits into an anterior and posterior lobe and secretes several hormones that regulate other endocrine glands.Growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, and oxytocin all originate here.This is why it is called the "master gland."
