Are the Watchers of Enoch aliens?
What the text actually says about the two hundred who came down.
The Book of Enoch is a Jewish text written between the 3rd and 1st centuries BCE.Most churches do not treat it as scripture.The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is the exception and includes it.Aramaic fragments among the Dead Sea Scrolls fixed its date.
The story runs like this.Two hundred beings called Watchers come down from heaven.They marry human women and father the Nephilim.They teach metalwork, astrology and sorcery to people.For this they are punished.
Red-pill material reads these Watchers as extraterrestrials.The reasons offered are that they came from above, taught technology, and produced hybrid offspring.They are then equated with the Anunnaki of Sumer.
The text calls them angels.Heaven there is where God is, not another planet.No word for outer space or a craft appears anywhere in it.Reading them as aliens is a twentieth-century addition.
Take an ancient text literally, but in today's meanings rather than its own: that is the heart of this method.
