Did Constantine invent Christmas?
Of December 25 and Sunday, one has something to do with him and the other does not.
Constantine legalised Christianity in 313 and died in 337.It is true that Sunday has something to do with him.In 321 he issued an edict making Sunday a day of rest.The edict called it 'the venerable day of the Sun'.
December 25 is another matter.The first document recording it as the Nativity is a Roman calendar of 354.That is seventeen years after Constantine's death.Nothing records him choosing the date.
It is also true that Rome kept a festival on the same day.The feast of the Unconquered Sun, established by the emperor Aurelian in 274.Historians accept that the two dates coincide.
Red-pill material goes a step further.It holds that Christianity as a whole is solar worship transcribed.The twelve disciples become the twelve zodiac signs, and the resurrection after three days becomes the winter sun.
Two dates coinciding and one copying the other are different claims.The first can be checked in a calendar; the second has never been established.
